Laricina Energy launches steam-injection project in Alberta oilsands
Laricina Energy said Thursday it has started the injection of steam into the Grosmont carbonate formation at its Saleski pilot project, a 1,800-barrel-per-day plant that represents the world’s first steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project in the Grosmont carbonate formation, a vast but little explored area. Carbonate rock contains cracks and cavities that have trapped bitumen, unlike the bitumen in sands which is recovered by surface mining and current SAGD methods. Read More
