$2B Encana sale launches new Calgary producer

The company buying Encana Corp.’s Alberta Bighorn assets for $2 billion is a brand new entity created by a group of five Calgary energy veterans, backed by an enormous international investment fund. Simon Bregazzi, chief executive of Jupiter Resources Inc., said the Calgary-based company is so new that it doesn’t yet have offices or staff — but what it does have is a deal to buy 144,000 net hectares of land and infrastructure in northwest Alberta that produced 319 million cubic feet equivalent per day (after royalties) of liquids-rich natural gas in the first quarter of 2014.
